SOCK IT to Yourself!

We were visiting the Beach Plum Spa at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis, Ma for a mental health day. We loved the “Customized Body Treatment Package” and would highly recommend the Cappuccino Sugar Scrub. One of our massage therapists noticed we both have the same knot behind our right shoulder (from sleeping on our arms, what you know twins do the same things even in their sleep). If you can’t get your spouse or significant other to massage the knot out or able to get an appointment with a massage therapist just SOCK IT to Yourself! Put a clean tennis ball in a sock (preferable a man’s tube sock or a long sock) and lean up against the wall and flip the tennis ball/sock behind your back. Leaning on the ball and the wall use your own body movement to massage your knot out. The sock is to help keep the ball in place so it won’t keep dropping. You can use one hand to hold the sock at your chest so it won’t drop from behind you. Thank you to the Message Therapist at the Beach Plum Spa!

Deodorant WHERE?

This may sound weird but a good remedy…. A friend of ours told us that she swipes on some of her deodorant on her feet when she wears shoes without socks or nylons to keep her feet from sweating and shoes from smelling. We have tried this during the summer months and works wonders! We would suggest letting your feet air dry for a few minutes before getting snuggled into your shoes.

Lemon Bread

Ingredients:

1 cup of white sugar
1 Tblsp grated lemon rind (optional)
6 Tblsp margarine
2 eggs (large)
1 ½ cup flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup milk
1/2cup chopped nuts
¼ cup white sugar
3 Tblsp lemon juice

Cream (with an electric mixer) 1 cup sugar with margarine. Add lemon rind. Beat in eggs. In a small bowl sift flour, baking powder and salt and blend. Add to mixture of eggs, sugar, and margarine alternating with milk. Stir in nuts. Preheat over to 325-350 degrees. Bake in a greased and floured 4x8x2 pan for 35 – 45 minutes or until a cake tester or wooden toothpick comes out dry (test from the center of the bread). Before bread is done in a small saucepan heat ¼ cup of white sugar and 3 Tblsps lemon juice until dissolved. Let combination boil until it is thick. When Bread comes out of the oven pour sugar and lemon juice mixture over the bread so it absorbs it. Cool then take out of pan, serve next day or freeze.

Our Mother makes this at Thanksgiving and at Christmas time. I prefer to double the lemon juice and sugar mixture when I make it to have the bread a little bit sweeter.

Skunk Wash for Dogs

Ingredients:

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
¼ box baking soda
1 tsp dawn dish soap

In a bucket combine all ingredients. Have your Dog in the tub, sink or outside and completely rinse them down so they are wet. Take a sponge, rag, or scrubby and use all of the mixture on your furry friend, continuously washing until mixture is gone. Be careful not to get the wash in your dog’s eyes. Rinse and dry.

This wash will eliminate the skunk smell which is caused by the oil that they spray. Your Furry friend will be welcomed back in the house again skunk free!

Windsheild Cleaner - Get Rid of the Smears and Smudges!

Windsheild Cleaner - Get Rid of the Smears and Smudges!

I love to have a clean car every since I started driving.  I try to clean my car every weekend (even in the winter).  I vaccuum, clean the interior, leather seats, doors, and then the windows.  I have tint on all the windows except the front windsheild.  I don't smoke or eat in the car and always seem to have a smudge appearance on the front windsheild.  When I clean it with windex it looks clean but only to notice the smears when I am driving directly into the sunlight.  I had finally had enough this past weekend and wondered why the windex isn't removing it.  I finally figured out how to get rid of it!!!  I poured a little rubbing alcohol on a cloth and presto!!  No more smears or smudges!

Fried Rice Recipe

This is easy to do, taste great and is best served with YUM YUM Sauce!

Ingredients:
Instant White Rice
Lite Soy Sauce
2 to 3 Eggs
Butter
Salt
Pepper

Prepare your instant rice, whatever serving size suits you. Spray a non stick spray or butter in a frying pan, fry up 2 to 3 eggs. I break the yokes immediately, sprinkle some salt and pepper over the eggs. Once your eggs are fried, using a spatula dice them up into small pieces in the frying pan then add your rice. Re-salt and re-pepper. Push the mixture of eggs and rice to the side of the frying pan and add a scoop of butter then push rice and egg mixture over the butter. After butter is melted add some lite Soy sauce and stir constantly for about 3 to 5 minutes. Serve.

Olive Oil – Polisher for Shoes, Plants, and Hair!

Shoes:
Do you have shoes that are dull and need to be spruced up? If you need a quick shine for your shoes or boots that haven’t been worn in a while, pour a little Olive Oil on a rag and wipe them down. Presto!

Plants:
You can also use this for plants to clean the leaves off of dust, they love it and its non harmful. You will be amazed how much greener and healthier they will look afterwards.

Hair:
Olive Oil is great for your hair to add a little shine. Dab a little on your hands (not too much) and run them over your hair for that added little shine. You can also add some Olive oil with water in spray bottle and use on an as needed basis.

French Potato Cakes

Ingredients:
Potato
Yellow onion
Peanut oil

Grate potato and onion into a bowl. Add peanut oil in a frying pan, when heated (medium heat) add a scoop of potato and onion into pan (silver dollar size or larger). Pat down. Cook approximately 10 minutes on each side until crispy.

-I haven’t tried this before but while I was adding the post I was thinking back how these tasted when I use to make them years ago. Try adding some imitation lobster (cut up real small), chopped green and red peppers (real fine), a little seasoning such as salt and pepper, little garlic and a splash of lemon juice to the grated mixture, might be a tasty treat to make as a side entrĂ©e for dinner.

YUM YUM Sauce

Have you ever had Hibachi? Like the white steakhouse sauce that they serve? Looking to make it yourself? The closest recipe I have found from the Internet with some modifications of our own is the following (it’s even better than what the Japanese Steakhouse’s serve)

Ingredients:
1 ¼ cup Cain’s mayonnaise
¼ cup water
1 tsp Hunt’s tomato paste
1 tblsp melted butter
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp sugar
¼ tsp paprika
Dash of chili sauce

Mix all ingredients thoroughly with a whisk or fork, let sauce sit overnight. Serve at room temperature.
Try serving this with our Fried Rice Recipe, YUM YUM!
